The route to healthy eyes.






Thought it is true that for some people, we certainly cannot do away with the very gadgets that have made our live so much easier and more convenient but we must learn to use them properly to save guard the health of our eyes and vision.



If you do use a computer or other electronic gadgets over a prolonged period every electronic gadgets over a prolonged period every day and start to experience CV symptoms, I would strongly advise you to see an eye doctor for further examination. If left untreated, your performance at work or school may suffer as a result.


Depending on the severity, the doctor may prescribe you with glasses like trifocals or miltfocal or special contact lenses that can help at screens over extended periods. During consultation, you could also learn about orthotic exercise that you can practised at home.


Making changes to the surrounding environment can also go a long way in ensuring your comfort. Proper posture, placing the screen at a correct angle and distance from the eyes, and removing sources of glace and reflection around and on the computer screen will help immensely.


Additionally, when your eyes begin to feel dry or uncomfortable, stop looking at the computer or whatever gadget you are using, and close your eyes for 10 seconds. By repeating this every 15 minutes, you can help maintain the moisture in your eyes, and prevent them from strain and fatigue. Should you need extra help, try using artificial tears to alleviate the discomfort caused by dry eyes.
Also, adopt the 20-20-20-20 rule –take a break from the screen every 20 minutes, gaze at a distant green object such as a tree 20 feet (approximately six meters) away, blink 20 times and breathe in and out 20 times. This way, your eyes can have plenty of chance to rest.

 In giving his final tip, regular eye check-ups are a must, now more than ever, to receive timely advice and /or treatment when needed. It is unfeasible for us to do away with electronic gadgets, but with appropriate usage and proper care, eye strain and their related problems can be reduced, leaving you can at school and at work.
